Norway boasts a rich diversity of natural landscapes, from dramatic fjords along the country’s west coast, to rugged mountains in the central regions, to vast wilderness plains in the far north – not to mention the vibrant cityscapes of its capital, Oslo.
The dramatic fjords along the west coast provide beautiful backdrops to leisurely cruises, often from Bergen, the second city and gateway to the fjords, and to numerous boat trips in search of killer whales at certain times of the year, usually from more northern destinations including Tysfjord and Tromso.
Norway’s northernmost regions are inside the Arctic circle. Norwegian Lapland is home to a once-nomadic Sami population, with a Sami parliament recently established in Karasjok.
