We all long to experience a white Christmas. Now, thanks to global warming, it is sadly something your children may never experience in the UK. So imagine them waking up on Christmas morning surrounded by the snow-draped forests, frozen lakes and fells of Santa's own kingdom, deep inside the Arctic Circle. Enjoy the magic of the Davvi Arctic Lodge at Christmas, complete with a visit to the grand old man himself, just before he sets out on his amazing round the world trip. Reindeer, Santa, snowscapes, hospitality and a sense of something special going on ... isn't that what Christmas is all about?
Waking up in Lapland on Christmas Day is only part of your short break with Transun. There is so much more included. From a Husky Experience to a Search for Santa, from a memorable Christmas Dinner to a Snowmobile Adventure, your four-night break is filled with magical experiences. Here is a typical itinerary.
December 23
After a festive flight, you land in Enontekio in Finland and are guided to your coach. The one-hour journey takes you through the heart of the Sami lands. Watch out for reindeer in the woods! We stop to collect your all-in-one thermal suits and boots. After checking in at the Davvi Arctic Lodge, your Transun rep hosts a welcome meeting and will answer any further questions during a welcome dinner. Tonight you can join one of our optional activities such as a snowmobile night safari, hoping to encounter the Northern Lights.
Christmas Eve
After breakfast, you head outside for Supervised Snow Fun, a day of activities that include a Snowshoe Trek, Snowball Throwing Contest, Tandem Skis and Children's Skis, Snowman Building, Tug-of-War, Snow Hockey and lots more! There will also be a supervised kids' snowmobile ride. Activities are available throughout the day. A warming lunch will be served in the hotel. Afterwards, you might opt to join th einside craft activities. Or, just relax indoors. Outside, if you're lucky, there may be some husky puppies to befriend, or a chance to get up close to a friendly reindeer.
Then, the highlight of the day when you board a reindeer sleigh and set off in Search of Father Christmas. During a private family meeting in his cabin, each child has the chance to talk with Santa and receives a small gift. After dinner, relax, or join one of our optional husky night safaris, perhaps in the hope of seeing the Northern Lights.
Christmas Day
After breakfast, you head out on your first safari - either a thrilling 40-minute Husky Experience or an exhilarating 1.5-hour Snowmobile Adventure, followed by a warming buffet lunch at the hotel. Throughout the day you can enjoy snow activities outside, with toboggans available free and kick sledges upon payment of a deposit. There's even an outdoor ice rink, with skates for youngsters to hire. This afternoon, each family will be provided with the materials to decorate a gingerbread house, with a prize for the best. There's also a chance to join a Wilderness Treasure Hunt! This evening, enjoy a walk to the local church, across the border. After a short welcome by the vicar and the carols, you return to the Davvi Arctic Lodge for a special Christmas Dinner.
Boxing Day
After breakfast, you join your last Santa safari, a 40-minute Husky Experience or a 1.5-hour Snowmobile Adventure, whichever you did not join yesterday. After lunch at the hotel, the afternoon is free to relax, enjoy some more family fun in the snow, or perhaps join an optional excursion. After dinner, relax, or join an optional night safari.
December 27
Check out after breakfast, after which the morning is free for one final play in the snow or to join one of our optional excursions. After lunch at the hotel, you depart for Enontekio and your flight home.
