Short breaks in Karesuando
2 nights - departing in December
View Accommodation:
Imagine setting out with your bright-eyed children in search of the real Father Christmas in the snow-drenched realms of Lapland! It is an experience that will live in their memories forever. The setting is a winter wonderland, on the edge of Europe's last great wilderness. It's magical, of course ... why else would Santa make his home here?
There are no ugly ski pylons nearby or busy, neon-lit, overcommercialised Santa 'villages'. Just the snow-laden trees, the landscape enveloped in white, the light dim, as here, well inside the Arctic Circle, the sun does not rise much above the horizon in December.
You start out on snowmobiles, leaving the quiet traces of human habitation behind.
Then, when your guide believes you are getting close, you transfer to sleighs, drawn by a reindeer, cousins of Dasher, Dancer and Prancer. Perhaps now beside your sleigh will appear a helpful elf, to help you look for clues. Then, suddenly, you glimpse a warm, golden glow coming from a lonely log cabin! Is this Santa's secret hideaway? And is he at home? What lies behind the door? WIll you dare to knock and enter?

Itinerary
Your search for Santa is the highlight of your Arctic Legends short break with Transun. But there is so much more included. From sledging to snowman making, from a Husky Experience to a wonderful Festive Dinner, your two-night break is filled with memorable, magical experiences. Here is a typical itinerary.
Day One
Collect your special boarding pass at your check-in in the UK and keep it safe! After an early flight to maximise your time in Lapland, you land in Enontekio where you are guided to your coach. The one hour transfer to the Davvi Arctic Lodge in Karesuando, Finland, takes you through the heart of the Sami lands. Watch out for reindeer in the woods!
Temperatures here can fall to -35C in December and we stop to collect your all-in-one thermal suits and boots, an essential part of your holiday package. Hats, scarves and gloves are also necessary, so remember to pack some for everyone!
After checking in at the Davvi Arctic Lodge, your rep hosts a welcome meeting, giving you all the information needed to get the most from your break. Before dinner, there's a host's cocktail reception and during a welcome dinner, your Transun rep will answer any further questions.
Day Two
One of the joys of the Davvi Arctic Lodge is that the majority of your outside activities conveniently take place outside in the delightful grounds. After breakfast, you head outside for our special Supervised Snow Fun. This is a day of supervised activities that include a Snowshoe Trek (like walking on tennis racquets!), Snowball Throwing Contest, Tandem Skis (two people on one pair of skis ... with hilarious results) and Children's Skis, Snowman Building (with materials provided), Tug-of-War, Snow Hockey, and lots more! In addition, there will be a supervised kids' snowmobile ride. Activities are available throughout the day. A hot warming lunch will be served in the hotel. Afterwards, you might join Mrs Claus's Christmas Crafts class making party hats and streamers for the Festive Dinner. Or just relax in the Sami Lounge, perhaps playing one of the many board games. If you're lucky, there may be some husky puppies to befriend, or a chance to get up close to a friendly reindeer. Then, the highlight of the day. With your special boarding pass, you join Santa's own reindeer sleigh in search of Father Christmas. During a private family meeting in his cabin, each child has the chance to talk with Santa and receives a small gift.
Fancy visiting another country this evening? Before dinner, join us on a walk to the local church, on the other side of the border, the most northerly church in Sweden! After a short welcome by the local vicar and carol singing, we return to the Davvi Arctic Lodge for a Festive Dinner complete with party hats and streamers. After dinner, why not join us on an optional Northern Lights Husky Safari?
Day Three
After breakfast, you check out before joining your two included Santa safaris, a 40-minute Husky Experience and a 1.5-hour Snowmobile Adventure. Then, there's time for snow activities outside, with toboggans available free of charge and kick sledges available upon payment of a deposit. Or, if you prefer, there's plenty of family fun to be had making snowmen or enjoying a good old-fashioned snowball fight! And there's even an outdoor ice rink, with skates available for youngsters to hire. Or you could try one of our exciting optional excursions, perhaps reindeer herding. Lunch at the hotel, then set off to Enontekio and your flight home.
