Iceland

Shrouded in mist and steam from beneath the earth’s surface, the extraordinary island of Iceland was pushed up from the North Atlantic seabed by volcanic forces that are still active today. Iceland’s scenery seems almost to belong to another world. At times both serene and wild, these are landscapes that provide a unique experience for both the senses and the soul.

Situated near the Arctic Circle yet warmed by the waters of the Gulf Stream, Iceland is one of Europe’s last great natural wildernesses, home to not just ice and volcanoes but beautiful wild plants and flowers, and an astonishing variety of birds. Everywhere you go in this fascinating land there is colourful evidence of the constant turmoil beneath the surface, which, over the years, has spawned numerous volcanoes, warm water pools, and one of the strangest yet most beautiful landscapes known to man.
