Davvi Arctic Lodge
A warm welcome will await you and your partner if you chose to stay at the Davvi Arctic Lodge for your honeymoon. This charming, simple hotel is set on a quiet and secluded hillside on the Finnish side of Karesuando, a border-village located 160 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The beautiful restaurant, its circular design inspired by the shape of a Sami reindeer corral, is the hotel’s centrepiece and from here you can enjoy panoramic views over Lapland’s snow-covered hillsides whilst enjoying a warming glass of Gloggi, a favourite tipple of the locals, similar to mulled wine.
The Aurora House was launched in 2012 and offers comfortable designer accommodation for those who would like to enjoy something extra special, making it our personal recommendation for honeymooners. The Aurora House takes your Arctic experience to new levels, offering a choice of superior and deluxe rooms, or full suites.
Nestled in the grounds of the Davvi Arctic Lodge, the Aurora House is a building separate to the main hotel and features just four rooms, providing a unique sense of privacy. This is sumptuous Scandinavian chic, a standard unparalleled within the Davvi Arctic Lodge and rarely found elsewhere in Finland. For the ultimate in comfort, we would suggest booking an Aurora suite.
This cosy, double room comes complete with underfloor heating, free-standing bath, double sinks and modern wood-burning stove. The deluxe room also features a traditional Finnish sauna. What better way to unwind than in your own private sauna? The room is accessed via a lobby shared with just one other room.
This spacious room offers contemporary Scandinavian design. The highlight of the room is undoubtedly the living area, where a snug sofa is irresistibly positioned around the log-burning stove. Whilst the stove is a beautiful feature, it is the modern underfloor heating that will ensure a cosy welcome awaits night after night. The superior room is adjacent to the deluxe room and is accessed via the shared lobby.
For the ultimate in comfort, the full suite can be used. With the deluxe room as your master bedroom, the superior room adapts into a chic living room, also providing a second bathroom. With the full suite taken, you will not only benefit from added space but also from the privacy of your own entrance and cloakroom to store your thermal outwear (or toboggan!).
This intimate hotel has just 25 rooms, spread over two floors. The hotel rooms are simple yet comfortable, providing all the basic amenities you need to enjoy a memorable stay. And of course, there is no need to don your thermal outerwear to reach the welcoming bar and restaurant, also conveniently located inside the main building.
Nestled within the grounds of the Davvi Arctic Lodge are a handful of timber-built cabins. These traditional timber buildings are cosy and all come complete with a private sauna. The cabins are conveniently situated just metres from the main hotel building, where meals can be taken as you will be on a full board basis. The semi-detached cabins are simple and cosy, offering a traditional feel within an open-plan layout.
Please note that the Davvi Arctic Lodge is only available to our honeymoon clients from January to April. For honeymoons in November or December please see the Arctic Star.
Located on the Swedish side of Karesuando, the Arctic Star is the oldest hotel in the area. This historic hotel was once visited by His Holiness The Dali Lama, which is reflected in the serenity and peacefulness of the hotel’s location. Also located on the Swedish side of the village is Karesuando’s spectacular church, the northern most church in Sweden, which is worth a visit for the architecture alone.
With just 27 rooms, the intimate Arctic Star hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and can provide the personal touches essential to the perfect honeymoon.
Fully refurbished in 2012, these rooms were masterminded by a team of Parisian architects. These cosy rooms benefit from underfloor heating, and the glass panels separating the bedroom and rain shower room offer a touch of romance. Space, however is limited at approximately 13 square metres, although the deluxe rooms are slightly larger. For stays over four nights, we would therefore recommend that the deluxe room is taken.
If, after the expense of your big day, you are looking for cost-effective accommodation, the Arctic Star’s superior rooms offer a comfortable base for your Arctic experience. Located on the first floor of the hotel, these spacious rooms overlook the Kaarevaara fell and the nearby lake. Offering traditional décor, superb views and spacious design, these rooms represent excellent value for money.
