Finnish Lapland

Finland is a vast and sparsely populated country with weather conditions that range from temperatures that drop down to around minus 30 with virtually no daylight in December to plus thirty and the twenty-four hour daylight of the midnight sun at the height of summer.

Most of Transun’s Finland holidays take place in Finnish Lapland. This magnificent region is home to spectacular scenery, including fells, lakes and rivers. During the winter season, the rivers freeze and the snowfall creates vast plains of pristine wilderness which, in addition to the copious forested areas, are suitable for a range of safaris involving snowmobiles, reindeer and huskies.

Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland and is a busy city in its own right. But for wilderness settings for a range of winter activities, you must head further north, to remote regions such as Enontekio, which encompasses the village of Hetta and the tiny border town of Karesuando.
