Night-time safaris in the Finnish fells, a journey through the spectacular Norwegian fjords ... and the cosy Davvi Arctic Lodge
ON THIS UNIQUE two-centre break, connected by the famous Northern Lights Route, you will experience the Arctic city of Tromsø, gateway of Polar expeditions, and journey through the spectacular scenery of the majestic Arctic Fjords before climbing onto the plateau of Finmark and journeying deep inside the Arctic Circle to your hotel in True Lapland. And the highlight of your break will be the two occasions when you set off in the hope of encountering the fabled aurora borealis, or Northern Lights. We cannot guarantee you’ll see this spectacular natural phenomenon, of course, but you’ll certainly have every chance of an unforgettable encounter.
What's included
Your four-night Polar Skies & Arctic Fjords break begins with a Tuesday flight from Gatwick to Tromsø in Norway, the Gateway to the Arctic. Upon arrival in Tromsø, you make the three-and-a-half hour transfer to the Davvi Arctic Lodge in Karesuando, travelling through the majestic fjords before passing over the Finmark plateau into Finland finally arriving in the early hours of the morning. After two nights at the Davvi Arctic Lodge, you return for a last night in Tromsø. As well as four nights’ full-board accommodation (one nights Clarion Collection Hotel With, Tromsø, three nights Davvi Arctic Lodge) and loan of an all-in-one thermal suit and boots, your break includes the following activities for you to enjoy before your return flight on Saturday:
NORTHERN LIGHTS SNOWMOBILE SAFARI
Duration: Two hours
An evening excursion when, with the night sky overhead, you head out through the wintry wilderness to a vantage point in the hope of seeing the fabled and magical Northern Lights. Based on two adults sharing a snowmobile. Includes hot drink.
NORTHERN LIGHTS FOREST TREK
Duration: One hour minimum
You will be guided on a walk through the forest to a spectacular viewpoint, overlooking the divided village of Karesuando. From here, you may be lucky enough to witness the Northern Lights unfold above the village before returning to the warmth of the Davvi Arctic Lodge.Includes hot drink.
CALL OF THE WILD HUSKY SAFARI
Duration: Two hours
An unforgettable adventure into the wilderness, pulled by your own team of beautiful huskies. Two adults share a sled and dog team. Includes hot drink.
REINDEER CAMP
Duration: Three hours
Learn about herding and lassoing reindeer from authentic reindeer farmers. Then venture into the wilderness on a reindeer sleigh safari. Includes hot drink.
TROMSØ ORIENTATION WALKING TOUR & VISIT TO POLARIA MUSEUM
Duration: Approx 2 hours (walking tour only with guide).
A short walking tour, lasting approximately 30 minutes, of this remarkable city, with its colourful centre, rich in Arctic history. You will also visit Polaria, Tromsø’s number one tourist attraction, which offers visitors an ‘Arctic walkway’ experience, as well as a panoramic cinema, gift souvenir shop and an Arctic aquarium, where the main attraction is the bearded seals.hotel in Tromsø.
